FAQs

What should I do when my loved one passes away?

If your loved one passes away at home:

  • Call your family doctor or Paramedics

They will issue a Declaration of Death form.  

  • Contact the police (if the paramedics have not)

They will issue a SAP 108 form.

  • Notify the Family Doctor if applicable


Contact Anns Funerals

Once official clearance is given, call us.

We will:

  • Collect your loved one with dignity and care
  • Assist with all required documentation
  • Guide you through the funeral or cremation planning process
    (in the comfort of your own home)


Gather Important Documents

You will need:

  • Your loved one's Identity book or card
  • Declaration of death form by the Paramedics
  • SAP 180 form from the Police


Anns Funeral Director will contact your family doctor or specialist, who will
issue a Notification of Death (DHA 1663). 


If your loved one was an outpatient from a day hospital or clinic, Anns Funeral Director, will need to take your loved ones hospital card and important documents to the hospital and request a DHA 1663 and a Form B for cremation (if required).

WHAT HAPPENS THE NEXT DAY OR TWO?

Anns Funeral Director will contact you to discuss the funeral arrangements.


Documentation & Legal Requirements

  • Receive you loved one's ID document or card (this will be returned after registration of Death with Home Affairs.
  • Receive the ID of the next-of-kin or connected person, who will sign as the Informant on the Notification of Death (returned immediately after copies are made).
  • Collect the personal particulars of your loved one to complete the Notification of Death.
  • Submit all required documents to the Department of Home Affairs, who will issue the Official Death Certificate and Burial Order.
  • Provide the family with the original and three (3) certified copies of the Death Certificate (additional copies available on request).


Cremation (if applicable)

  • Assist with the Application of Cremation, signed by a family representative and attested before a Commissioner of Oaths.
  • Record family instructions regarding the handling of cremated remains (ashes).


Funeral Arrangements

  • Guide the family in deciding between burial and cremation.
  • Dicsuss service details
    • Church service, with or without the coffin present.
    • Cremation, with or without the family attending.
    • Viewing
    • Dressing of the deceased (family's choice of clothing or a shroud).
  • Assist in the selection of a coffin, required for both burial and cremation (we have five different packages to suit preferences and budget).


Please note: We are unable to submit or process any claims with
financial institutions on your behalf.

Do you offer standard funeral packages?

No,  while we have structured packages, each service can be personalised with special touches such as music, catering, cultural traditions, or favourite foods in memory of your loved one.

can you assist with paperwork like the death certificate?

Yes, we handle all necessary documentation, including registering the death, collection of the certificates, and providing certified copies to the family.

do you provide services outside cape town?

Yes, we assist families across the Western Cape and can also arrange national or international repatriation if needed.

do you offer grief support or counselling services?

We provide access to grief support resources, including counselling referrals, support groups, and aftercare guidance for families.

what anns funerals does not do:

At Anns Funerals, we believe in transparency and dignity in every step of the process.  While we provide a wide range of funeral, printing and catering services, there are certain things we do not do:


We do not provide medical services

We cannot pronounce death, treat, or transport the deceased before clearance by paramedics, police and or hospital staff.


We do not act as legal representatives.

We cannot make decisions regarding estates, wills, inheritance, or other legal matters on behalf of the family.


We do not interfere in any family disputes

If there are disagreements regarding funeral arrangements, ashes, or payments, we remain impartial and require written instructions from the authorised next-of-kin or informant.


We do not release ashes or documents without authorisation

Only the designated representative may collect official documents, or cremated remains, to avoid conflict or errors.


We do not provide financial loans

While we will assist with the necessary, we cannot advance funds or cover costs beyond agreed arrangements.


We do not compromise on dignity or respect

We will never engage in practicecs that dishonour the deceased or the family.
